CITY OF MAYFLOWER
FIRE & LIFE SAFETY INSPECTION

Fire Prevention & Life Safety Inspections
All new businesses, whether new construction or moving into an existing facility, require fire prevention inspections by the Fire Marshal's Office prior to opening and receiving a Certificate of Occupancy. The purpose of these inspections are looking for adherence to the Arkansas Fire Prevention Code, particularly Volume 1.

Fire inspections are $30.  One follow-up/ re-inspection is included.  Re-inspection fees for subsequent failed inspections are $30.

Some of the common failure points we see in new facilities:

  • Fire extinguishers
    • Maintained and serviced annually by a licensed fire extinguisher company or purchase new ones annually.
  • Illuminated "EXIT" signs.  Exit signs are generally required.
  • Obstructions or items in the path to the exits.
  • Combustibles in mechanical closets.
  • Circuit breakers not labeled.
  • Minimum clearances not kept around electrical panel.
  • Missing covers on electrical junction boxes.
  • Missing covers on outlets and light switches.
  • Use of extension cords to power devices that are not temporary in nature.
