Fire Investigations
The Mayflower Fire Marshal’s office is tasked with investigation the origin and cause of fires within the Mayflower Fire District. The Arkansas Fire Prevention Code (Vol. 1), Chapter 1, Part 2, Section 104.11 and Arkansas state law provides the authority for the Mayflower Fire Department to conduct fire investigations. Not all fires will have a formal investigation conducted due to limited resources in the Department. However, all fires resulting in either injury, death, or suspected arson will be investigated.

Care is taken to adhere to the standards outlined in NFPA 921 and 1033 whenever possible while completing origin and cause investigations.
During complex investigations this Office will enlist outside assistance from neighboring agencies’ Fire Marshal’s Offices and the Fire and Explosives Unit with the Arkansas State Police to ensure a thorough investigation is completed. Mayflower’s current Fire Marshal is certified as an IFSAC Fire-Arson Investigator, an International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) Fire Investigation Technician, and a certified law enforcement officer that receives regular continuing education for both fire and law enforcement.
